LAHORE: Newly elected Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has sworn in here on Thursday. Punjab Governor Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood administered oath to the chief minister.
Earlie, Shahbaz was elected as the chief minister of Punjab for the record third time after receiving 300 votes.
Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammed Iqbal presided the session where the election for the leader of the house took place.
There was a contest between PML-N’s Shahbaz Sharif and Mian Mehmoodur Rashid, a joint candidate of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the PML-Q while the PPPP and the JI had not fielded its candidate for the slot of chief minister Punjab.
Shahbaz Sharif’s win was certain for the slot of chief minister as his party enjoys majority in the Punjab Assembly.
A total strength of the Punjab Assembly members is 371 of which 358 are notified. Chief Minister was elected through division of votes in the provincial legislature.
